Yet More Late-Night Ramblings…

Ok, so it has been quite a while since my last post.  I know I’ve said this before, but: I’m very sorry for being so bad lately at keeping this up to date.  I really am trying to keep up with it, but not doing a very good job as you can tell.  Been hearing that a lot lately, but I digress…

So, quite a bit has happened since my last post, and since I’m sick and wide awake at 3:30am, I figured I would try to fill you in on what you’ve missed all in one post rather than trying to catch you up one event at a time.  Ready?

I went to an event at Remington Park racetrack (horses, not cars) where I got to see my OKC friends Paula Porter, Lennon Patton, and the dynamic duo of Patrick & Angela Allmond.  I also had the pleasure of meeting Yenni Vance – Social Media Manager of Remington Park, Jill Smith – Manager of Interactive Media for the Food Bank of Oklahoma City, Kasie Redman & Jessica Hawk of Dragonfly Marketing, Dawna Blue – owner of Your Organizing Source, and many many more great folks from the OKC area. (side note: I put $2 down on 40-1 longshot #10 for Patrick, and the old nag won!  True story)

Remington Park racetrack
The Eclipse Room at Remington Park (a great venue for meetings or events, I'm just puttin' that out there...)

I also went to a Northwest OKC Chamber event at the Science Museum.  Looks like a fun place, and I’ll have to go back and check out the exhibits some time.  While I was there, I finally got to meet Jill McCartney, the President of the NWOKC Chamber, in person after trading emails for months.  Lennon Patton was there as well, and he was awesome at introducing me to a bunch of people that night.

A couple of weeks later my local hang out, Bricktown Brewery, was rolling out their new Oktoberfest beer.  To help folks get in the spirit, they had all the servers get dressed up in German brew pub garb.  I’m sorry, did I say “all” the servers?  What I meant to say was “all the female servers” were in costume.  Sexist?  Perhaps.  Did I have a good time?  You bet your bippy I did.  The ladies didn’t have nearly as much fun as we patrons, but they were really good sports about the whole thing.  Having said that, I am pretty sure they are plotting their revenge.

I'm just...so...happy. *sniff sniff* 😉 Clockwise from top: Tara, Maysea, and Jasmine.

A week or so ago, Holly Shelton, Manager of Sports Business Development for the Convention & Visitors Bureau and fellow downtown dweller, invited me to join the Urban Neighbors (a group of people who live in downtown OKC) for happy hour.  A) Holly is pretty awesome, and 2) I enjoy a good happy hour.  So it was pretty much a no-brainer.  Holly introduced me to several people, including Evgenia (a Russian poet), and Vera (a nurse from Kazakhstan).  I had the pleasure of talking with these two for a couple of hours about everything from art, to travel, to food, and many topics in between.  Both women were very sweet, and it is truly a pleasure to have met them.

Evgenia, the poet. She also translates poetry.

It should be noted that Vera is crouching in this picture. She's actually either 6' or 6'1", I can't remember which, so in heels, she's got me beat at 6' even. 🙂

Not too much went on this past week except work, which as of late, has consisted largely of creating my first marketing plan for the hotel.  Let’s just say I’m going to need a new bottle of Tylenol.

Which brings us to tonight.  Here I sit, at almost 4am on a Saturday night/Sunday morning, feeling like I’ve been hit by a train.  Oh, did I mention I’ve got a conference to go to Monday morning?  I’ll be sure to post about that later.  Hopefully much sooner than I did this time, honest.

Oh, and one more tiny thing you may not have noticed: the web address for this blog has changed!  It is now simply “kzooenrique.com.”  No need to type in “wordpress,” nor is there a need for the “www.”  You can still use the old address if you want to as it should automatically bounce here, but I thought I’d mention the update.  Spiffy, huh?

Ok, I’m going to lay back down again and see if I can drift off for a while.  I REALLY need to cut my hair before I leave for the conference Monday morning.  Ugh.  So, until next time, best wishes to you all!
